  1. Not that New Jersey deserves any defense, BUT this law was actually written in 2000 by MADD (Mother’s Against Drunk Driving). Senator McKeon did a lousy job of representing it, but he is a Senator! This is a strange law, but I have to agree with MADD on some level, this is one way they can make a difference, maybe a VERY VERY small difference, but it is a few less accidents per year. FYI if you check it out NJ has VERY strict laws on Tobacco AND Alcohol. They are the one who sentenced a mother to life in prison with charges of vehicular manslaughter, because her 19 year old son and his friends got into her alcohol while she was away for the weekend and were under the influence when the hit a minivan on the side. This apparently killed the 7 year old who was thrown from the van, unbuckled of course! The mother, and driver, of the minivan was not charged with negligence for the child bein gunbuckled, but the mother of the underaged drinkers was given their rap for "providing" the alcohol. Think about that.ALL that said New Jersey is more than a little strange. I think the pass a lot of these laws just for national attention!

  3. Yes, but this is a new law they are adding in addition to the 2000 law. And why not focus on something else that is causing a larger percentage of the deaths?
